Our Story

khaki-moss was founded by a group of television industry veterans who recognised a significant gap between academic media education and the practical skills required to succeed in Australian broadcasting. After decades of hiring graduates who needed extensive retraining, they decided to create something different.

Our founders approached training the same way they approached production: results-focused, deadline-driven, and intensely practical. Rather than building a traditional educational institution, they created a programme that mirrors the actual working environment of a television studio.

The first cohort of twelve students graduated in early 2019. Within six months, nine had secured positions in Australian television production. This success rate validated the approach and allowed expansion into additional programme areas.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We believe that television production skills are best learned through doing. Every programme includes substantial hands-on components where participants work on real projects under professional supervision. Theory matters, but execution matters more.

Our instructors maintain active careers in television, ensuring that what they teach reflects current industry practice rather than outdated textbook knowledge. When broadcast standards change or new technologies emerge, our curriculum adapts immediately.

Small cohort sizes allow for genuine mentorship. Instructors learn each participant's strengths and development areas, providing personalised guidance that accelerates progress. This approach produces graduates who are genuinely ready to contribute from their first day in a professional environment.

Our Commitment

Every participant who enrols in a khaki-moss programme receives our complete commitment to their professional development. This extends beyond graduation through our alumni network and ongoing mentorship opportunities.

We regularly invite graduates back to share their experiences with current participants, creating a community of television professionals who support each other's career progression.
